Bridging the gaps in services by connecting veterans with vital local resources for their specific needs, support and care.
In the event of a suicidal crisis, Veterans should seek care at the nearest hospital. VA will furnish, pay for or reimburse the cost of eligible Veterans’ emergent suicide care and treatment at a VA or non-VA facility. This includes ambulance transportation, related prescriptions, up to 30 days of inpatient or crisis residential treatment and up to 90 days of outpatient care at no cost to Veterans.
This site is dedicated to promoting Veteran Resources in Suffolk and Nassau County, NY. We aim to connect and encourage veterans to look into a variation of supportive services designed for them with the intention of addressing their unique challenges. This coalition was created by a group of volunteers who believe that access to care and information will decrease the rising rate of Veteran Suicide. Our mission is to connect veterans with essential resources that improve their quality of life by both free and pay for fee services giving as many options as possible and the autonomy of choice.
We believe that no veteran should be left behind and that every veteran deserves access to the care and services they need.

Creative Arts Therapist, Veteran Advocate & Substance Abuse Counselor
Dani Koulermos is a disabled veteran and trailblazer who served stateside and overseas as a Military Police Officer during the Global War on Terrorism Era. She was among the first women integrated into Combat Arms roles previously reserved for men. After completing her service, Dani returned to Suffolk County, NY, where she earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Art Therapy.
Currently, Dani works at Mountainside Treatment Center, pursuing her clinical hours as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT-P) and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-T). She specializes in using art as a powerful tool for non-verbal communication, helping clients process trauma and find healing. Having faced her own mental health challenges as a veteran with a Secret Clearance, Dani knows firsthand the therapeutic power of creative expression. Art became her solace, offering a safe, anonymous space to process the moral, emotional, and physical pain she experienced during service—pain that conversational therapy could not fully address.
Dani has also dedicated herself to supporting fellow veterans. As an Outreach Coordinator for Suffolk County’s Economic Opportunity Council, she helped homeless veterans and those at risk secure affordable housing with dignity and trauma-informed care. Her advocacy extends to educating mental health professionals through the Veterans Mental Health Training Initiative, where she shares her lived experience as a 100% disabled veteran to bridge gaps in care and understanding.
Her professional expertise spans Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Addiction Recovery, PTSD, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Dani employs Clinical Art Therapy, Mindfulness, Person-Centered Care, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in her work with organizations across New York State.
In August 2023, Dani was honored with a proclamation by Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta as the 2023 Female Veteran of the Year for her exemplary service, leadership, and community contributions.
As President of the Northport Veteran Affairs Resource Coalition to Prevent Veteran Suicide, Dani channels her passion and lived experience—including surviving years of suicidal ideation and attempts—into creating meaningful change. Under her leadership, the coalition provides a centralized platform for Suffolk County veterans to access resources, programs, and events without discrimination based on discharge status or service duration. The initiative aims to bridge critical gaps in care, fostering a supportive, informed community committed to saving lives and honoring service.
